Nature Journaling  with John Muir Laws

"Nothing enhances our curiosity and connection to the world more than keeping a nature journal," said John Muir Laws during a workshop in early spring. You can keep a nature journal based on observations in your yard, on your street, your local park, or an open space park.

We feature John Muir Laws as a way to help educate and inspire curiosity in the outdoors. If you are an educator and are interested in adding nature journaling to your curriculum for your family or students, you can learn more about the curriculum on the John Muir Laws website. The comprehensive guide “How to Teach Nature Journaling” is available on the website as a free PDF download. The curriculum meets California State Standards grades 3-7, however nature journaling can benefit anyone of any age.

Additionally, Solano Land Trust has teamed up with an educator of the Mill Valley School District to bring a structured lesson plan aimed at grade school students. The video is linked below!

According to John Muir Laws’ biography: He is a naturalist, artist, and educator who has dedicated his work to connecting people to nature through art and science. He also teaches nature study and natural history workshops that incorporate illustration and scientific note-taking as a means to greater observation, memory and curiosity.”
